The assignment was to provide a new site design, content management system, member dashboard and communication tool for the almost 43,000 members of AFSCME LOCAL 152, AFL-CIO. Union management wanted to create a secure portal to allow members to go to one place for the information most relevant to their role in the Association. From a positioning standpoint, the organization wanted to continue to sell the benefits of the union to the public and its members. From a functionality standpoint, they wanted to consolidate all of the information that a union member would need to know from the unit contracts to all of the special discounts available to the latest news and legislative updates. Each union member needed to log in to get information on his or her specific bargaining unit.
Anthology developed the new site to include a clean and intuitive design approach, powerful content management system and user-friendly member-interfaces. For efficient workflow, we integrated a robust authentication process with the union’s existing systems. Another key outcome is that the site is very easy to use for backend administrators. We also designed an efficient and dynamic workflow for the updating of the member database and the publication of relevant news that was intuitive for the users.
The site launched in November 2016. The union marketing team reports that adoption by members has gone well. After turning over the website to the union staff, they have embraced it and are keeping it updated from both a technical and editorial standpoint.
