Foodland is the largest locally owned and operated grocery store in Hawaii, with 32 locations statewide. The goal of this event was to create the biggest possible grand opening and to celebrate Foodland’s return to Ala Moana Center after an absence of several years. At 47,000 square feet this flagship store would be their largest, bringing customers a truly unique shopping and dining experience. This was the message that needed to be communicated in order to make this grand opening event one of the biggest and the most meaningful in the company’s history.
We partnered with local media to spread the word about the store and its offerings. We also created a series of special events to add excitement. Other tactics included building a mobile-friendly microsite for store messaging and the use of social media to showcase grand-opening-day hashtag contests, sneak peeks and special offers. The efforts resulted in nearly 1000 shoppers streaming through the store in the first hour – as many thousands more would do throughout the day. The amount of media coverage exceeded expectations and resulted in a very successful event for our client. The American Marketing Association's Hawaii chapter awarded a GOLD Marketer of the Year Award to Foodland for Best Event Marketing for the Foodland Ala Moana grand opening.
