Position Summary:

The Director of Account Services (Public Affairs) in the Public Relations Group is a leader in the organization focused on managing the public affairs team, developing client strategy and strengthening relationships, overseeing work flow and processes, and growing accounts and new business, while championing the Anthology Principles to advance client success.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Account Management

  • Directs public affairs staff to ensure account service functions are operating efficiently and to a high-degree of client satisfaction. This includes, but not limited to, ensuring teams have consistent communication with clients and partners, communication strategy reflects clients’ strategic vision as well as agreed upon measurable goals.
  • Builds client relationships and maintains a network of industry, clients, and media contacts.
  • Manages administrative and operational aspects of the public affairs team, to ensure efficiencies and profitability are maintained on all accounts across.
  • Assists teams in the development of public relations plans and strategies and makes proactive recommendations to teams and clients.
  • Assist in preparation of communication materials involved in the implementation of public relations programs for clients. Writes press releases, opinion editorials, white papers, client-attributed articles, speeches, and other communications materials vital to the advancement of a client’s brand name and image.
  • Demonstrates commitment to industry, Anthology and clients by mastering industry knowledge and trends and understanding and clients’ business.
  • Works closely with company leadership as an integral component to the growth of Anthology’s development with the responsibility of identifying and securing new business opportunities for the company, ensuring client retention developing account growth strategies, and enhancing the company’s service capabilities and offerings.
  • Uses a collaborative spirit to work towards the best outcome for clients and the agency.
  • Effectively resolves conflict with clients and within teams.
  • Directs team during crisis situations.
  • Stays abreast of emerging technology and recognizes opportunities to apply new ideas to meet company or client goals and objectives.
  • Directs meetings and makes presentations/speeches as needed.

 Management Support

  • Empowers and motivates public affairs account staff to learn and continue polishing professional skills, including identifying those specific needs and areas for improvement.
  • Assists with professional development programs for the company (e.g. leading lunch and learns, working with leadership to develop new programs, etc.) to grow the cumulative knowledge of the team.
  • Ensures and engages in employee performance planning, feedback, and performance evaluations at scheduled intervals. Engages in ongoing coaching and performance improvement planning to close performance gaps.
  • Serves as an active, working manager within the group who is supportive of helping the team remain effective and productive regardless of the task required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

 Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in marketing, public relations, journalism, communications or related field. High School diploma and equivalent experience in a marketing environment may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree.
  • Seven (7) years experience in marketing, public relations, media or related field or demonstrated equivalent. capability to perform the required job duties and responsibilities.
  • Proven record of successfully managing a team and motivating team members.
  • Experience in working with elected officials and/or regulatory agencies on public policy issues.
  • Familiarity with land use, transportation, environmental and energy regulation.
  • Account service/management experience.
  • Possess high degree of professionalism.
  • Experience in crisis and issues management.
  • Experience managing a budget.
  • Proven record of excellent client service.
  • Strong desire to learn and grow in the areas of public relations and integrated marketing.
  • Understanding of general business practices and procedures.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Network of quality business and media contacts locally and nationally.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.

Preferred:

  • Interest in political issues at the county, state and federal level.
  • Experience working with Office 365 and related applications.
  • Understanding of Hawaii’s history, culture, and lifestyle.
  • Active in the community, either through volunteering or as a member of a professional organization.
